Fresh wisdom:

The red-eye from LAX to JFK is a sucker bet. In the best of scenarios, you’re only going to get five hours sleep, maximum. And the best of scenarios is rare, friends. Last night’s five hours was split in half by a mewling cat (anti-LOLcat) and some guy who wanted to flood us all with light while he watched the sunrise outside his window.

The day’s koan:

If the otherwise ironically-named Quality Inn of Lansing Michigan has free wifi, why does this expensive-ass Manhattan hotel have to charge an extra $15 bucks a day for it?

If you’re in NY, come see me somewhere, and say hi! If you must use a code word, use “Tatterdemalion.”

Below are this week’s NYC events again, in slightly smaller type.

> Barnes & Noble Greenwich Village
> TUES June 12, 2007 / 7:30pm

>> I’ll be reading and signing here, at a hip and mysterious B&N, located at AVE of the AMERICAS and 8th Street. [more info]

> Happy Ending Music & Reading Series
> WED June 13, 2007 / 8pm…doors open at 7pm, be early!

>> This is going to be off the hook. A ten minute reading, followed by “taking a risk” onstage. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I just might do a little homage. I’ll be reading and risking with Pia Z Ehrhardt and Jack Pendarvis, at the legendary Happy Ending bar, 302 Broome Street @ Forsyth. Music by Jamie Barnes. [more info]

> A Public Space Night, KGB Bar
> SUN June 17, 2007 / 7pm

>> An insane night of pure talent, plus me, hosted by the folks who bring you the superb literary magazine A Public Space, held at the world-famous KGB bar, 85 East 4th Street. FEATURING none other than Jack Livings, Joshua Ferris, and myself.

  1. Man, I was really hoping to get down to New York for one of these events. For now, though, I’m putting my efforts into the groundswell of Interloper sales in Maine.
